Serving a diverse community of over 600 students from Kindergarten – 8th grade, our teachers collaborate with each other to educate our students to a high standard, in both academics and character. We strive to form our students to be PEARLS: People with strong character, Effective communicators, Active Christians, Responsible citizens, and Lifelong learners.

St. Matthew’s has a supportive parish community, and community of school parents, who partner with us in forming saints and scholars. We have a multitude of resources available to support all staff and to set up our teachers for success. We are a double class school; teachers have partner teachers to work and collaborate with, as well as full-time instructional aides in each classroom from K-4th grades. New teachers have access to a strong yearlong mentorship program, as well as access to ongoing professional development tailored to individual and communal needs. All teachers receive instructional support from the principal and the dean of academic excellence; student disciplinary support from the dean of students; and support for differentiated instruction, student success, and RTI’s from the dean of student services. Teachers also have access to a generous classroom supply fund to utilize for materials and supplies for classroom enrichment beyond your provided basic classroom supplies. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience and enthusiasm for working with students from all grade levels (K-8)
  • Enthusiasm for teamwork, collaboration, and collective efficacy
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Ability to successfully maintain a double class caseload
  • Develop a strong rapport with students, parents, faculty and staff
  • MA Degree: Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work; or Counseling with credential of School Social Work Specialist; or Marriage and Family Therapy; or related field

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Practicing Catholic 
  • Experience working in a Catholic school or with school aged children (3-5+) years
  • Advanced degree in psychology, counseling or closely related field/eligible for licensure
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Expertise with technology including various devices and proficient in Google or Microsoft applications
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Public Speaking
  • Community Outreach
  • Curriculum development
  • Educational and informational event planning
  • Leadership skills, and crisis management experience

Responsibilities: 

  • Support Saint Matthew Catholic School’s mission, philosophy, and SLE’s 
  • Provide confidential individual and group counseling sessions to help resolve interpersonal or family problems that interfere with school performance, including crisis intervention and consultation as needed
  • Conduct interviews with students, family members, and school personnel to gather information required to assess student social, emotional and behavioral adjustment to school and the community
  • Maintain regular contact with students' parents/guardians to inform of student's progress, areas of difficulties and any changes or situations in home life that may affect school performance
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents/guardians, district personnel, and services providers to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems, always establishing and maintaining effective public relations and projecting a positive community environment and maintaining appropriate list of referral services
  • Develop, implement and promote parent educational programs and/or speaker series events
  • Develop, teach and maintain comprehensive student safety plan in accordance with San Mateo County and ADSF guidelines
  • Maintain emergency drill records for OSHA and San Mateo County
  • Manage and facilitate  safety/fire/earthquake drills and other emergency response meetings and trainings
  • Attend all mandatory trainings provided by SMC and ADSF as it pertains to safety and emergency preparedness
  • Attend all mandatory trainings provided by SMC and ADSF as it pertains to school counseling
  • Classroom observations
  • Classroom support and SEL curriculum guidance
  • Teach and Facilitate appropriate grade level curriculum as it pertains to Family Life-Sexual Education
  • Maintain appropriate records and progress notes in a secured area.
  • Attend parent/teacher meetings as requested
  • Work collaboratively with community partners in bringing additional resources to the school community
  • Attend regular faculty meetings
  • Provide and conduct staff trainings on pertinent topics
  • Collaborate with Dean of School Affairs on student issues and/or concerns
  • Perform all other duties outlined in our Faculty Handbook or assigned by the Principal or Dean(s).

Salary & Benefits:

Job Type: Full-time.

Salary: Based on experience and diocese pay scale (Advanced Education & Certifications not included)
